All About Assessments...Most 2-year and 4-year programs require you to take some kind of assessment before they will be able to accept you as a student. Even the military requires you to take an assessment. These assessments are predictors of how well you will do as a first-year student. It helps them place you into classes your freshman year and gives them an idea of your skill level. Below are some common assessments that are used. You should check your college's website to see which tests they will accept for admission:
ACT--The ACT is required for admission into many 4-year colleges. Colleges will be looking for a certain minimum score, or, it may be used as part of a formula such as the RAI (Regent Academic Index). UNI, Iowa, and Iowa State all use the RAI for admission. To see sample questions, follow this link. To register online go here. COMPASS--the COMPASS test is used by many of Iowa's 2-year colleges. You can schedule an appointment to take the COMPASS test at Hawkeye by calling 296-4014. There is a Reading, Writing, and Math component. To see sample questions, follow this link. SAT--the SAT is required by some 4-year colleges. It also tests your college readiness skills in reading, writing, and math. Not every college requires the SAT, so you should check the admissions requirements of the colleges in which you are interested. To see sample questions, follow this link. FREAKING OUT ABOUT TAKING THE ACT OR SAT????? UNICUE is offering practice sessions for both the ACT and SAT tests. Check out the flier and sign up sheet below!

Scheduling College/Program VisitsA common question that I hear is: How do I schedule a college visit? Visiting a college campus can be one of the best things to help you decide on where you would like to receive your post-secondary training and education. Campus visits are free; however, you do have to find your own transportation there. Often times, you will take a tour of the campus, be able to ask any questions you may have, visit your program of interest, and get a general feel for what it might be like to be a student there.
To schedule a campus visit, visit the colleges website. Campus visits are usually found under their "Admissions" tab. Most of the time, you can register right online. You can usually bring a guest (like a parent or guardian) with you. East High is working to schedule some visits at colleges, but as of right now, we do not offer campus visits outside of our high school. The Talent Search program will have field trips for campus visits to Hawkeye, Kirkwood, UNI, Iowa State, and Iowa. You may visit with a Talent Search representative to see if you may qualify for participating. |

Check back often for updates. We will be adding more college visits frequently. During these scheduled times, an admissions representative from that college will be here at East to talk with you about their school and programming.
