Welcome to my website! I hope that you find all the resources that you need for your academic, mental health, social, and post-secondary needs! If there is something you would like to see featured on this website, just let me know using my contact form. I will be updating the site frequently and would love to help you out in any way.
I have been both a teacher and a counselor for 13 years in two school districts. I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Northern Iowa in 2002, majoring in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, and Spanish (yes, 3 majors...I was a little crazy!) After teaching for about a year, I began my Master's Degree in Education, which I earned in 2006 from Viterbo University. I also finished my middle school endorsement while completing this degree. A few years later, I then decided I wanted to move from teaching to counseling, so I packed up my things (and my dog, Gus) and moved to Waterloo. I went back to the University of Northern Iowa and completed my second Master's Degree, this time in Counseling, in 2013. In addition to that, I have completed 150 hours of Adlerian Play Therapy training. My family and friends like to joke that I collect degrees and go to school for a hobby. :-)
I am now a counselor for the Performance Based Diploma Academy at East High, and I love my job! In my free time, I love to exercise, play outside, do triathlons, go for bike rides, kayak, snow shoe, cook, bake, garden, chill with my dog, read, watch movies, and spend lots of time with family and friends. Oh, and I LOVE home improvement projects! Being creative is one way that I am able to express my uniqueness. Stop by and tell me something you enjoy doing! I would love to get to know you better.
I hope that you have an amazing school year. If there is something that is keeping it from being amazing and successful, that's why I am here. Don't be afraid to ask for help, for we all need a hand now and then. Plus, I love to help, so you are actually doing me a huge favor! I hope to help you soon.
